Estate Planning

Estate planning is the process of planning for disposal and transition of a person’s assets when they pass away.  There is so much that can be done to add value to our client’s situation when it comes to estate planning and estate planning strategies. People often avoid discussing end of life planning.  But with a little bit of planning, your will feel more confident that you have your affairs in order and you may be able to protect your assets, avoid unnecessary taxes and save your loved ones from unneeded headaches when your time comes.  Below are a few ways that we work with our clients to help them with their estate planning strategies.

  • Help you understand the probate process and how estate planning strategies can help.
  • Clearly outline how different assets will pass when you pass away and develop strategies to maximize your control of what happens to them while minimizing unneccesary taxes or delays when distirbuting your assets to your loved ones upon your death.
  • Coordinate your income and investment plan to align with their estate plan by drawing income from assets that would pass less favorably while leaving other assets to pass to heirs upon death.
  • Work closely with estate planning attorneys to discuss your estate plans, coordinate beneficiaries and account ownership.
  • If you have a trust, discuss the funding of trust through transfer of assets, changing account registrations or beneficiary designations.
  • If you have a special needs child, discuss and plan for the transfer of assets in a way that doesn’t’ impact the child’s SSI.
  • Work with your spouse, family and heirs after death to provide for a smooth transition of assets.
